Life is like a roll of toilet paper…

2013 has faded away in to our memories and 2014 is alive.  Seriously, it seems like just yesterday we were ringing in 2013!  Where did it all go and how does it happen so fast?

If you’re anything like me, you need more minutes then there are in a day and more days then there are in the year.  There was so much more I wanted to be and to accomplish in 2013, yet there’s nothing more I can do about it now.  SONY DSC

Even though I wasn’t able to check off all my 2013 list, I get the splendid opportunity to start fresh.  We all do!  The term “New Year’s Resolutions” is ripe and flowing with excitement.  Or maybe you’re the type that doesn’t believe in them because, well, you only stick to ‘em for a week and then it’s back to the old ways.

Well, either way you look at it the top 3 resolutions typically include weight loss, save more (better finances) and a twist of one of the first two.  Let’s make this year different!  Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for health and money resolutions… they are both a work in progress in my life.  In fact, I’m participating in a healthy holiday cleanse starting January 6th because I definitely indulged a bit much this year.  But I really want to do something different this year.

Here are my top 3 New Year’s Resolutions:

  • Be more present in my life… every moment of every day.  For me – this means shutting off all types of social media and email more often.  Getting out and being around more people more often.  (Working from home has its perks but some would have considered me a recluse this last year.)  Being confident and making more mistakes.  I heard someone once say, “Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction”.  How true!  There will never be a perfect opportunity and there are rarely perfect moments BEFORE they happen.  The perfection is in the mistake or the messy, the laughter and ultimately the story.  I want to have more stories to tell and more experiences to share.
  • Love my body as it is!  This is a huge one for a health and fitness junky like me.  Awhile back I had lost a decent amount of weight and was feeling great.  However, the newness of the weight loss wore off and I started criticizing again… thinking I needed to look more like the magazine chicks (the VERY thing I tell my clients is impossible and just damages our confidence!).  The old saying ‘do as I say, not as I do’ is NOT the way I want to do business.  Loving my body means trashing ALL of the negative self body talk.  Doing the things that make me feel great – drinking lots of water, eating more veggies and moving every day.  O.. and wearing heals more often!
  • Be more of a goldfish.  This one may seem a bit funny but think about it – they have such a short term memory that there’s no chance they could be unhappy!  I want to quit living so much in the past – the good parts and the bad parts – which means I’ll be more available to live each moment today and every day.  I won’t be as afraid of taking action, putting my heart out there, being silly or making mistakes because tomorrow will be a new day with new memories to make.

So what are your new year’s resolutions?  How do you want 2014 to play out?  Today is the first day of a new 365 page book and YOU get to write the chapters.  It’s also a good time to remember that the closer to the end of the roll it gets, the faster it goes.  Maybe… just maybe if we spend more time living in each moment (much like we did as a child), we will slow that roll down.

Lots of Luv… Jenn
