Do I need multivitamins and antioxidants?

The answer to that question is a “YES!” But we’ll dive a little deeper into that so you can understand why. Everything that your body does from producing new skin and muscle to bolstering your immune system on a daily basis requires essential vitamins and nutrients. In addition, your body is under attack all day everyday from pollutants in the air, pollutants in the water, pesticides sprayed on the foods you eat, self induced stress from work, home or even from exercising. Therefore your body requires anti-oxidants to help fight off those free radicals.

Can I get everything I need from eating?

Most people think that they can get everything they need from eating healthy. While that may true, there are a lot of factors that affect that. Do you eat enough servings of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis? Do you eat processed foods that have a low nutritional value? Did you know that the healthy foods that you do eat come from mineral deficient farmlands because of the depletion levels in the soil from overuse and routinely sprayed pesticides? So the answer lies within you. And if you’re the average warm-blooded American, you’re probably not getting the minimum recommended daily allowance (RDA).

If I get the RDA am I healthy?

The recommended daily allowance is the minimum amount of nutrients to help prevent diseases such as rickets, scurvy and a couple of others. After doing some research in USANA Health Sciences “Ask the Scientist” database I found this: “According to the Food and Nutrition Board: The recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is the average daily dietary intake level that is sufficient to meet the requirement of nearly all apparently healthy individuals in a particular life stage and gender group.  The Food and Nutrition Board also defines “requirement” as:  The lowest continuing intake level of a nutrient that, for a specified indicator of adequacy, will maintain a defined level of nutriture in an individual.”

What all that means is that the RDA is the “MINIMUM” that you should be getting and only you can answer the question of whether you are or not.

Is supplementation a solution?

As we come back full circle you’ll see that supplementation is a solution to giving your body what it needs to function correctly and fight off the free radicals that are introduced to your body from your daily routine. Often times when people take a high quality multivitamin and antioxidant they find they have more energy, get sick less, heal faster and generally just feel better.

Which supplements should I take?

Not all multivitamins and antioxidants are equal and you may be wondering who has the best nutritional supplements. Or you may be asking which are better, synthetic vitamins or natural. You can find the answer to those questions by checking out the linked resources.

In the end understanding the importance of a high quality multivitamin and antioxidant is key to your health.

Till the next time…
